Democracy is in trouble. Why? Because we have no news. Period. Nothing. You are either unwilling to be real news or you think that Republicans are right. Well, if it's the latter, boy are you in for a world of hurt in the next few years.
One question, how can so many bizarre things happen, so many things that are incomprehensible, that you don't say, even one time, why would that be? Why would someone do something that absurd? What is behind all this?
"What is behind all this" is why you were once relevant. Even if you agreed with Joe McCarthy there was a time when you would tell the story behind the sound bite. Today, all we would hear is "Joseph McCarthy is hunting down Communists in America." That would be it. You don't agree? Really?
After the terrible earthquake in Haiti, Pat Robertson said that there should be no aid sent to them. The point he was making was that if something bad happened to them they must have displeased god, so this "made up" god of Robertson's paid them back. In theory then, if you follow Pat Robertson and anyone in your family dies, or you lose your job, or anything bad that happens to you... you brought it on yourself.
The republicans don't want "bigger government". This is enough for you, huh? You don't want to define big government as they mean it? Well, if you asked, what if they said "bigger government is people that can work in the SEC and police Wall Street, to keep about 300 crooks from bringing down the whole country?" Okay, if it's not that, what do they mean? Just "big government" is good enough for you. There are Cristo/Politico's who want no more PUBLIC SCHOOL. They want this so they can rewrite American history to say that we were always supposed to be an evangelical christian nation. That seems worth researching to me, but then I'm not a "news editor."
And did you ever go out to find companies, Fortune 500 companies, who have Democratic CEO's who want tighter regulation, because they don't want their stockholders losing money. I know I Fortune 500 CEO whose company was making money, who stopped taking bonuses about 3 years ago because he was worried about the direction of the economy. There are CEO's of big companies on the side of progressives. But are you covering them? No. Hint, hint, see who President Obama invites to the White House to give him advice. Is anyone covering the White House? Whose job is that? There are many CEO's who do not want America to be a theocracy, many who do not like the "do nothing, evangelical puppet, republicans" who are in our Senate today.
You think I should reference these? Is it my job to name their names? No, it is yours. They are out there and we haven't heard one word about it. I learned much of it by reading the FINANCIAL TIMES OF GREAT BRITAIN. It is our best source, by far the most trustworthy, news about what is going on in America. (The pink newspaper "FT")
No, you want to cover people screaming over huge bonuses because that tiny fraction of the population gets more attention. It doesn't matter to you if you are just making Americans mad. "Mad" is a very bad place to make a decision from. So you sacrifice telling us what is really going on for some half made up junk. I've heard CNN speculate on everything until I can't even watch them. Spend an hour or two, write down how much of what they say is fact and how much speculation. There is no fact.
And did you know that when Texas and California order schoolbooks they are often used in all school districts in America, as the others cannot afford a rewrite... you can read about it here, in the Guardian.co.UK The UNITED KINGDOM GUARDIAN is writing a story about how it's possible, thanks to Texas, that all America's schoolchildren may be taught that the Bible is correct and science, where it does not agree, is not.
We have one party who attended a healthcare summit and brought only one idea for how to address healthcare... start over. This is what is needed to kill any chance of reform. On Hardball, Chris Matthews asked Chuck Todd for his impression and Todd said that "the Republicans came better prepared this time." Prepared for what? They did not offer one single idea. So, Mr. Todd what exactly were they better prepared for... the had their talking points down pat? The President of the United States may have finally given up on them. I have given up on hearing Chuck Todd ever doing a bit of critical thinking and digging deeper into why ALL republicans vote as one. Your "little take" on the situation, "they fought better this time" is silly and beneath us.
What we should have seen was a bunch of republicans with ideas--not so much. What Chuck Todd could have said... "although they have been in every meeting that the Democrats could force them to attend, they still say they have no input. Clearly they have no intention of passing any legislation for the Democrats."
When President Obama caught more top level Taliban last year than Bush did in eight, one of the major networks chose not to cover it AT ALL. They did have a three minute segment on Sarah Palin's day.
This is for all people and organizations that claim to be "real" news. In other words, any organization that does not get it's talking points from Frank Luntz.
So, that basically wipes out News Corp, fox, clear channel radio and the 40% of the nation that is exposed to these fear mongers every day. So, if you enjoy rampant paranoia, blatant homophobia, an incomprehensible dislike for women (feminazis), and if you have missed flat out racism, these are for you. We don't care what you carry, we are not out to appeal to the crazies in this nation. Although all those mad teabaggers, call it a hunch, but when the evangelical church promised them the great distribution of wealth, then they lost their jobs, they felt had. But, unwilling as usual to take responsibility for their actions, they are now placing the blame on "libruls."
But what is worse, are stations who pretend to be news, real news, and they just aren't. They are sound bite/entertainment stations and very short on sources.
For DAYS you, our news, followed some girl and her pretend pimp from behind and treated it as news. You know that Palin is as qualified as Paris Hilton to be President. Frankly, Paris Hilton is more interesting. Please cover her if you plan to keep up that direction.
Here is a tip that could help you out. When Evan Bayh resigned, you spent hours on how that could hurt Democrats. Why didn't you look up Bayh's voting record and decide if he could ever really have been called a Democrat. See how that works? That is news.
There is a new group called Oath Keepers. Their membership includes current members of police and sheriff's departments , and former military people of all branches. They have taken an oath not to obey anyone they decide "is not working on their side" of the Constitution. So the people chosen to defend us may decide we are part of the problem. Timothy McVeigh came out of this group.
Doesn't someone need to get to the bottom of where this is coming from. I heard that they were growing by the thousands? I saw a map of where these groups are located and how many per state. The highest I remember was California (60 to 80 groups) and Texas was second.
There are those who would love for America to be a Theocracy. We came very close under W.Bush. Now, with President Obama in charge they feel an urgency to keep Democrats out of power so that they can press on with this agenda. Under Citizens United could someone buy enough smear films that would discourage Democrats from even running? Wouldn't you like to know?
This is a reality based community. I have never written anything that deliberately left out a reference to what I was talking about. I was going to leave out all references but I just couldn't. The point is where are you? Where is the real news in the U.S. today. If you're not going to do it we might as well give up now. Democracy cannot survive without a thriving media and a group dedicated to getting to the bottom of every story. We need someone to say "when you see Citizens United, think Newt Gingrich and David Bossie. Google those two for fun. Citizens United appears to be a website devoted to furthering the fundamentalist evangelical agenda.
Is all of this true? Is any of this true? Has President Obama not reached across the isle 1000 times, only to be tricked when he counted on a vote that never came?
We don't know. The last news story I watched to night was about the Olympics and how teens are choosing to drive at an older age. Well, sure, all that is as important as whether we will be a theocracy in a few years. It doesn't matter, but I'd like for someone to get to the bottom of how one party can vote as a block, every time, no matter what. There have been over 200 bills passed in the house but not one Republican will cross the isle to vote, no matter how important. What is going on?
Are you afraid of Rupert Murdock, Roger Ailes? Is that it? This man controls 40% of America's media. One in 5 households have him on at sometime during the day. There was a time when this (1) control of the airways and (2) monopoly would have been so illegal. What happened. Unlike you "news stations" I'm going to see if I can find out.
I've got some clues, but if you want any, look them up. It's called journalism. If you want to see real journalism in action, you could watch Rachel Maddow.
