I am reading Nate Silver. I read his blog every day. He says that election night will be exciting. I am 58. If the republicans take over there very likely be no Medicare or hope of insurance for me... not just when I'm 65 but now if I lost my job. They plan to gut the President's healthcare plan, simply, by not funding it. Gone. Poof. I am diabetic and no insurance company would ever cover me at any price.
If you are a small business owner and you get sick they just drop you. Where is their incentive not to? Are you really going to pay a lawyer $300 and up, per hour, to go to court and lose?
Nothing about election night will be exciting. It will be terrifying because the election will not be what we lose... we lose all our safety nets.
I live in North Carolina. One of our Senators is Richard Burr. His ads look much better than most republicans simply because he did not go the "scare them to death route." What he did is talk about the future. He talked about how important the future was for young people. Translate: He has voted against every piece of legislation that would save Social Security and Medicare.
So give the republicans just enough time and power to wreck every single thing the Democrats have ever done to give this nation a safety net. Your mother will be calling. She needs a new heart valve, or a cancer treatment, or diabetic medicine (mine cost over $2000 a month with insurance) and shamed and crying, she will ask if you happen to have that kind of money. There is not one thing that is exciting about this election.
